What to Expect

PeakBalance Neurofeedback offers free, 15-minute consultations via phone to learn about Neurofeedback and determine if we’re a good match. To move forward, you will be asked to provide an active email address to complete intake paperwork. A link to a client portal, powered by TherapyNotes, will be emailed to you. Creating an account is free and allows you to complete paperwork, schedule appointments, and make payments online. A Good Faith Estimate, intake paperwork, and questionnaires will be sent to you in the portal to complete before your scheduled intake session.

Next, we'll work through the following steps together:

Therapy session discussion

Intake & Screening

Our first scheduled session will combine the intake and a screening for NFB services. This session will determine if you’re a good candidate for NFB training. If not, alternative services or recommendations will be provided.

At the end of this session, you will be scheduled for a 19-channel QEEG assessment and provided with information regarding optional bundle package pricing (also outlined in the Good Faith Estimate).

QEEG Assessment

The QEEG assessment is completed by placing a cap with nineteen sensors on the head. Conductive gel will be placed into each sensor, onto the scalp to get a good connection with the skin. During the recording process, you will be asked to sit still and quietly with your eyes open and eyes closed. After the QEEG assessment, you can expect to have a small amount of gel in your hair that quickly dries and easily washes out with water.

Prior to your next session, your Clinician will analyze the recording to develop an individualized training protocol to address your needs. Your Clinician will review your results with you prior to starting Neurofeedback training so that you’re aware of what brainwaves are being trained, which area(s) of the brain will be addressed, and why.

Neurofeedback

For Neurofeedback sessions, one or more individual sensors will be placed on the scalp and ear(s) using a medical-grade paste. During training you will be watching a game-like activity on a computer monitor. The live-time feedback in this game-like activity helps to guide you towards self-regulating atypical brainwave patterns that were identified in the QEEG assessment.

Your Clinician is actively involved in all aspects of the training process and will provide coaching as needed to help you succeed. After session, your Clinician will clean any remaining paste out of the hair.
